About Us

More than ten years ago, we started Native Campervans because we loved traveling by campervan and wanted to help more people experience it. What started with a handful of vans turned into one of the country's largest campervan rental fleets, with thousands of travelers hitting the road every year.

Along the way, we learned a lot. Running a rental fleet means you don't just design campervans, you live with them. We maintained them, repaired them, improved them, and spent years figuring out what actually makes a camper enjoyable to own and easy to use.

But one thing never sat quite right with us. Traditional camper conversions are permanently tied to one vehicle. As vans rack up miles, wear out, or eventually need to be replaced, your entire camper goes with them. Then van prices climbed dramatically after COVID, making that investment even harder to justify. Spending tens of thousands of dollars building out a vehicle that will eventually age out just didn't make as much sense anymore.

We knew there had to be a better way. That's what led us to partner with Innovation4Van, an engineering and manufacturing company in Germany that had already spent years developing removable camper systems. Together, we combined everything they'd learned with everything we'd learned from operating campervans every single day.

Hunker grew directly from those years of experience. We wanted to build something we'd be excited to own ourselves. Something that gives people the freedom to upgrade their van without starting over every time. We think that's simply a better way to own a campervan.
